I have ADD and love having it. I am a card carrying member of the ADD Club, and proud of it. I have thrived and enjoyed life in ways others can only dream about, because I have ADD. Two of my four children (ages 18 and 30) also have ADD and their ADD has given them the ability to prosper and overcome obstacles that would frustrate others.
Robin Williams, Albert Einstein, Tom Cruise, Henry Winkler, John Lennon, Walt Disney, Thomas Edison, Mohammed Ali, Bruce Jenner, Robert Kennedy, Magic Johnson, Carl Lewis, Galileo, Mozart, and Werner von Braun all thrived because they have or had ADD. more »

Looking around the Internet, you will probably find over a dozen different types of life type coaches listed and promoted. Shoot, we at The Coach Connection list thirteen different types of coaches on our web site alone. All of these coaching choices present a bewildering picture, and we even contribute to your confusion. Goodness, not only is the life coaching process probably new to you, but now it appears that you will have to also figure out which type of coach will be right for you from so many different choices. You might even think you have to pick the right type of coach first. But how can you do this when there are so many choices and no way to understand the differences well enough to make the right choice. Where do you start?

Today I am posting a question from a prospective client in the “research phase” of hiring a coach and my subsequent response.
Dear Coach Connection,
I am still discussing different coaching options but wanted to know whether it would be possible based on our phone call for you to line me up with three different coaches who are ICF certified? Let me know what you think.
Thanks!
Steve

You will attain life balance when you enjoy and thrive in all three of your lives simultaneously without guilt or conflict. Life balance is very personal and different for everyone. Many people strive to attain life balance. Yet few people know what life balance really would look like to them, nor how to attain it.
Our three lives determine our life balance.
Work Life. Our work related life consists of what we do to earn an income to provide resources to live and prosper. Yet we gain much more from work. We gain financial and social status. We gain feelings of accomplishment, belonging, power, acceptance, praise and fame, enjoyment, and even feelings of contributing to the good and welfare of our fellow man. The emotional gains from our work often provide far more benefit than the money we earn. more »

We often talk of “self-imposed obstacles” to potential clients as those things that tend to get in the way of us accomplishing our goals. Author, Rick Carson, named self-imposed obstacles “Gremlins” in his classic self-help book, Taming Your Gremlin. The gremlin is a metaphor for our negative thoughts. Many times the gremlins we know, rather than the gremlins we don’t know, are the ones that stand in the way of our success.

A critical key to building a strong foundation for success in life is to have and to honor your personal boundaries. Simply said, a boundary is an imaginary line over which people, problems, and life may not cross, because you've said so. You are in charge of your boundaries. You will find that as you extend your boundaries, you have fewer problems, less stress, and more space. more »

One critical key to success is something so simple, we sometimes take it for granted. Taking extremely good care of yourself can pay off in many ways. Not only does it make you attractive to others, but it demonstrates to others how they should treat you. You will also find you have more energy, peace of mind, satisfaction and can be more generous with those around you. When you start to put yourself first, you can be more fully available to others without having any resentment or anger in the process. No one else cares about you like you do. What I'm asking is that you begin to make yourself the top priority. Be "self"-ish. This can be a very scary proposition at first. Just the word selfish can bring up old feelings of a parent's scolding. By definition, my old Webster's dictionary says the word selfish means caring unduly or supremely for oneself at the expense of others. That meaning is not what I'm suggesting here. Sometimes selfishness does conjure up negative reactions, and yet, there is a very positive side in honoring your highest self. When you are taking very good care of yourself, ultimately it allows you to be more generous and supportive of others than you have ever been before. Self care requires that you start to focus on life balance, well-being, and quality of life. When you think of it, truthfully, you can't take care of others without taking care of yourself first. Think of the flight attendants instructions at the beginning of every flight. In case of emergency, you must put your own air mask on first. Then, you assist others around you. If you aren't getting any oxygen, you won't be help to anyone else. Self care does require some action on your part. For those of you living the adrenaline lifestyle, rushing here and there, you may need to reestablish a relationship with yourself. You will have to slow down and take some time for reflection. What are your needs and desires? Have you lost touch? At The Coach Connection we speak to many people in this same place. With a little creativity and conscious planning, self care can fit into the busiest of schedules. Start the process now to take good care of yourself. Set aside a few hours or an evening each week. It may be hard to slow down at first, but you can. Take a look at your whole life. Your life has many facets, and all are important. A meaningful life is one in balance. A balanced life means balanced in all aspects: relationships, work, spiritual well being, contribution to others, fun, adventure, and emotional and physical health. Our emotional and physical health in particular, is something that is easy to ignore until there is a problem. We lead busy lives, and tend to put others needs before our own. Slow down and connect to your wise self. By taking good care of yourself, you show others how to treat you! You will also be surprised to find that you start attracting wealth and opportunities this way. There are many ways to start building self care into your life. Many of these ideas take little investment other than your time. Self care is the base on which you build a successful life. Think of it this way. If your foundation is weak, chances are good that parts of your life may crumble or crack. Take steps today to make sure your foundation is solid and secure and success won’t be far behind. |
