In a previous blog I revealed that the REAL reason so many good people have been laid off from corporations. The CEO’s and higher executives failed everyone to line their pockets with their excessive bonuses by selling their corporations down the tube. You had no control over the corrupt greedy practices of your CEO’s.
In the meantime, your corporation, if it still exists, would no longer pay you for your job, and you have been laid off. You feel rejected. You feel insecure. You feel betrayed. You are afraid. You feel inadequate. You feel angry. Unfortunately, these are very normal and far too often feelings that result from being laid off.
Responding to being laid off
However, once you go through the normal grieving process to release and reduce these negative feelings you will want to focus your energies on getting some type of income producing position. But now you are still faced with confusion about what to do next, where to turn. You are concerned about how to win the employment war with to many corporations still reducing payroll, read not hiring, and so many others like you competing for fewer and fewer jobs. One other question that I hope has entered into the picture is that you might want to figure out what you really want to do, now that you have this opportunity.
Ask yourself about your true feelings about your corporate job.
Did you really like your corporate position? Were you doing anything you really liked? Did you put up with all sorts of negative conditions to keep your job or win at the corporate rat race? Were you commutes tiring and long? Were your bosses selfish and petty? Were you working in less than honest conditions? Were you able to contribute anything valuable, or were you relegated to protecting political positions? Did you work long and hard hours at the expense of your health and family? Was the competition to succeed strong, cutthroat and really that worth it? Had you lost your integrity and/or identity?
In truth, would you really want to return to your old job at the same conditions? If the answer to this question is no, you do NOT want to jump back into the same corporate rate race, then you have come to the right place. That is because you not only do not have to return to the corporate rat race, that you most likely despised anyway, but you can actually figure out what you really want to do for your work position and get it much easier than you can imagine.
The Trial and Error Work Selection Process
Let’s first look at the work selection process that you would most likely use, because it is the only work selection process you know is available. The only work selection process you know is called the “Trial And Error” work selection process. When times were good, you considered the several work positions, normally jobs that were in front of you. You decided to give one a try. You then adjusted to the job, to the corporation, to the work conditions, to your bosses, to the industry, and even more. Eventually, you probably realized that you really dislike your job so much that you want to change it. So you use the same “Trial and Error” method to get your next job. Only to discover in hopefully less time after you went into the adjustment mode, that you no longer like it either, even thought the scenery, people, and corporation are different. And your success rates were weak at best. You would have to be worried about being successful using this same work selection process. That was during good times. But, these are not promising to be good times. So your chances of success will drop even more.
Now you believe you must use the same Trial and Error” method but adjust it by sending as many résumé’s out as you can to any remotely possible employer, in hopes that one might show interest. Of course hundreds of others are doing the same thing. Potential employers will undoubtedly be overwhelmed with résumé’s if the word gets out they have an opening. The lack of interest from prospective employers (you might read as rejections) can be devastating. But if look at what is going on with this “Trial and Error” work selection process, even in good times it was very iffy, and now in bad times it will be almost worthless.
So, if you really want to figure out what you want to do and get it, even in these less favorable times, you might be in a position to be willing to try another work selection process that is relatively new, and has proven to be very effective in connecting people with their ideal income positions.
